Update: (10/01/2019)

The Hillsboro HS – Addition & Renovation project continues to progress. The Phase 2 renovation work is the primary focus for construction. A lot of work will occur in the new addition over Fall Break while students are out of school. Over the past month our school administrators, design, and construction team representatives have taken the time to do the following: 1) provided a tour of the new Phase 1 addition for the 102-year-old widow of Ed Hessey. Ed Hessey was the first coach at Hillsboro HS, and the large gym is named after him. Mrs. Hessey (who was escorted by Councilman Russ Pulley) was very excited to see the work and engaged both staff and students during her tour. To see the joy, interest, and excitement on Mrs. Hessey’s face was a highlight for this entire project! 2) Provided a tour of the Phase 1 addition to the Alliance for Green Hills. 3) Attended the 09.24.19 Alliance for Green Hills board meeting to share the project progress, proposed new landscaping, and coordination with proposed new MTA bus shelters to be constructed on the school side of Hillsboro Pike. The following work is anticipated over the next month:

Update: (08/14/2019)

The Hillsboro HS – Addition & Renovation project continues to progress. The Phase 1 Addition opened on time for the start of school August 5, 2019. The academic and instructional spaces were completed and teacher ready. The school site will continue to be a construction site for Phase 2. All construction work is now located on the south side of the site. The bus drop off, parent drop off and parking areas for the first day of school appeared to work as planned. By the third day arrival and dismissal times were reduced by at least 15 minutes +/-. The new main visitor school entrance and visitor parking is located near the old gym entrance facing Hillsboro Pike. Students, staff, and parents should remember the following:

  1. The student bus drop off will enter and exiting from Hillsboro Pike. The students riding a school bus will enter the new addition front entrance facing Hillsboro Pike.

  2. Teachers will park in the former student gravel parking lot along Hillsboro Pike.

  3. Student parking will be temporarily located off Glen Echo in the new softball field area, new parking near the baseball field, and in the existing tennis court area. Students who drive will park and enter the new addition at the new east entrance next to the new cafeteria.

  4. Parents will enter the site from Glen Echo. Parent drop off will be at the new addition east entrance next to the new cafeteria. The drive will loop around the Global Annex and exit back onto Glen Echo.

  5. The Global Annex can be entered from the east and west entrances similar to last year. There will be a pedestrian walkway connecting the New Addition and the Global Annex for the 2019-2020 School year.

  6. The small bus drop off will occur at the north entrance of the new addition. The small buses will enter and exit from Hillsboro Pike.

  7. The south end of the building and campus will be for construction only, as well as the former football field area. All traffic entering and exiting from Richard Jones should be for construction only.

The Burro Bash, which occurred on August 11, 2019, was one of the most well attended and largest back to school celebrations to date according to the PTSO. Thanks to everyone for your support of Hillsboro HS!

The Hillsboro HS – Addition & Renovation project continues to progress! The Phase 1 Addition is one month away from the start of school and is still on schedule to be complete for temporary occupancy in July 15, 2019 pending fire marshal approvals. As we work through the month of July, it appears that the academic and instructional spaces will be completed and teacher ready by mid to late July. Our goal and objective is to provide teachers access to their classrooms prior to their return date of July 30, 2019. This will allow each teacher to prepare his or her classrooms for the 2019-2020 school year. The school site will continue to be a construction site for Phase 2 when students return on August 5, 2019. The proposed bus drop off, parent drop off and parking areas for the first day of school is listed and shown below:

  1.  The student bus drop off will be as it was this past year with buses entering and exiting from Hillsboro Pike.
