Martin Luther King Jr Magnet High School

This is phase II of the renovation and expansion of MLK.  The project will include expansion of the cafeteria, kitchen, and adjacent commons area.  The athletic locker rooms will be expanded and the music program will be provided a new home.  The project will also renovate most of the existing school to upgrade the existing HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Phase 4 Auditorium is 95% complete.  Phase 5 PE Locker Rooms are 95% complete.  Phase 6 is 90% complete.  Anticipated work to be performed over the next month includes the following:

  • Phase 4 Auditorium Projector and screen to be installed.
  • Phase 4 Auditorium Lighting and Sound to be complete.
  • Phase 5 PE Locker Room work to be complete.
  • Phase 6 to be complete.
  • Small Gym HVAC to be complete.

Under slab rough in for plumbing and electrical has been completed. First Section of concrete slab on grade has been placed.   • Release all trade packages for Phase 1A and B with value engineered options.
  • Concrete slab for first floor to be poured in sections.

Concrete footings have begun. Bidding of Drywall package for Phase 1A and B is complete. Structural Steel shop drawings have been approved and steel is to be delivered to the jobsite next month. Anticipated work to be performed over the next month includes the following:

  •  Release all trade packages for Phase 1A and B with value engineered options.
  • Concrete footings for new building to continue.
  • Concrete elevator pit to be poured
  • Begin structural steel erection

Electrical underground for temporary and permanent power feed is complete. Preparation of Phase 1A and B building pad is ongoing. Anticipated work to be performed over the next month includes the following:

  • Continued site work.
  • Construction of off-site temporary parking lot for staff and students and contractor staging area.
  • Shop fabrication of Structural Steel for building structure.
  • Foundations for building

Update: (3/01/2016)

Electrical underground for power is underway. Demolition of the existing concrete and asphalt parking in anticipation of building pad work. Anticipated work to be performed over the next month includes the following:

  • Continued site work.
  • Construction of off-site temporary parking lot for staff and students and contractor staging area.
  • Fabrication of reinforcing for concrete slab and footing.
  • Shop fabrication of Structural Steel for building structure.
  • Preparation and mobilization of concrete work for transformer pad and protection wall.

  • NES has been released to Order new custom power pole.
  • The Transformer required for Temporary/Permanent power will be installed.
  • Electrical site work will commence.
  • Site improvements will begin

Demolition of the Old Moore building has been completed. The temporary parking lot is ready to relocate parking to commence preparation for construction to begin depending upon NES assistance in relocating power poles and feeds, installing new permanent transformer in the next approximately 60 days. Anticipated work to be performed over the next month includes the following:.

  • NES Order new transformer and custom power pole.
  • Commence relocation of power poles and feeders after new transformer is received and installed.
